| Sensible EU –
1.5.08
As readers will know, I have very little time for the interfering, law-making and intrusive EU. However, there is a proposal currently being discussed that would be of tremendous help to the many children that are either abducted or go missing each year and it is already in use in the US. It is called the Amber Alert system.
When a child goes missing the authorities immediately put out an alert across all TV, radio, motorway gantries, ports and newspapers with the identifying characteristics of the missing child. In the US the scheme has had a 100% success rate in finding the child within the first crucial 72 hours.
There is a similar system in operation in France and Belgium which has been extremely successful. Our illustrious MEPs – led by Britain – have suggested that this scheme could be put in force across the EU. At last, a sensible piece of legislation.
